Hello All, Please take a look at my new titles.
Author George Mavro is a 24 year air force, Security Force veteran. George served over 22 years stationed in Europe, eight of those in Greece. He holds advanced degrees in Government and International Relations. George currently writes books and teaches Government for a junior college. He presently lives in Florida with his wife and two sons.
The Balkans and Mideast, a region very much in the news, is the setting for this action novel which takes place in the not too distant future. The secular pro western government of Turkey has been overthrown in a violent revolution and replaced by an Islamic fundamentalist regime. Her fanatical leader, General Muhammad Kemal, has contrived a devious plan to restore the Ottoman Empire in the Balkans and unite the Islamic world under his evil rule. To accomplish this, Kemal will launch a devastating war with all the tools in his arsenal including Islamic Jihadist terrorists and WMDs. His first targets are US alley Greece and the few remaining American forces stationed in the region.

Captures attention from start to finish. Knowledgable details within the story. A great read for those interested in politics and war. could be applied to modern day.

A friend recommended this book and I was pleasantly surprised. I took it on the airplane with me and even skipped my nap to keep reading. This is a well-written intrigue/action novel with military suspense, political intrigue, and an interesting plot about the good guys fighting to stop a state based Islamic terrorist conspiracy aimed at attacking the Greek government and armed forces as well as US forces in Europe. The characters are well developed, the plot is riddled with subplots as various groups vie for position, and the military aspects of the story are fascinating. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire story. I am looking forward to the sequel which is supposed to be out shortly. This book is a great read for someone who likes the Tom Clancy genre of books who wants to find an additional author. I am planning on purchasing several copies to give as gifts for the upcoming holidays.

George Mavro's OPERATION MEDINA: THE JIHAD is an action-packed military thriller set in the not too distant future. The author draws on his 24 years of service as an Air Force security force veteran to weave a story across the borders of four nations as the entire Aegean is plunged into war. I particularly enjoyed the author's rich back-story behind several of the characters. He spends considerable time developing the characters in such a way that the reader easily relates to them and understands their motives and actions. The Greek military characters are especially well-developed, and as they are on the defensive, it's easy to root for the Greek characters as the story progresses. In addition, Mavro's depiction of aerial combat is both exciting and well written. Fans of military fiction in the spirit of Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising or Dale Brown's Flight of the Old Dog will enjoy this book. I look forward to reading the second one in the series.

Well written book with very interesting characters. The military and political information was extremely interesting. This was a fast read and I am anxiously awaiting sequel.
The second book of the series Operation Medina, The Crusade opens up with the Greeks retreating on all fronts from the Turkish onslaught. The U.S. has dispatched an expeditionary force consisting of a fighter squadron and a small USAF Security Force to assist the Greeks. As the Americans join the fight against the Turks, they begin to exact a heavy toll on the enemy. The Greeks manage to stabilize their Albanian and Macedonian fronts, yet are unable to halt the Turks, who continue to push them back. As the tide of battle begins to turn against General Kemal, he plans a final act of madness. A daring plan is formulated involving a simultaneous attack from both air and land to stop the madman from carrying out his deadly scheme. If the plan fails, the Americans will use the only other alternative left to stop him, which could lead to a showdown with other Islamic states. With the odds stacked highly against them, the allies must find a way to stop Kemal and avert a holocaust.

The author does it again in this sequel. Highly recommend if interested in war, politics, and action. Seems like the story could be taken out of todays news. Will be looking out for the next novel!

I usually don't enjoy the sequel as much as book 1 but in this case I did. I read this book in just over 1 day. Action from start to finish.

Like the previous reviewer, generally I don't like the sequels as much as the first book. As a little bit of time had gone by since I had finished the first book (The Jihad), I was afraid that I would have difficulty getting into this sequel. No such problem - I was drawn right back into the conflict and intrigue as well as the characters. It keeps the reader engaged all the way through. This is a good book, and is a very fast and entertaining read. I've given several copies as gifts and it has been a hit each time.
While escorting a supply convoy to an off base communications site north of Bagram Airbase Afghanistan, Master Sergeant George Mavrakis and his team are ambushed by the Taliban. Running for their lives with the few survivors of the ambush they manage to flee to an underground mine, but are trapped inside when a Taliban suicide bomber blows himself up in the entrance, sealing them inside. Traveling deeper into the mine they discover an underground base left there by the Soviets. While exploring the base they find a control room filled with computers and equipment which activated after generator power was restored and a countdown is automatically started. The arrival of George and his troops from the future have drastically altered the timeline. The Ottoman Sultan Mehmet II will soon put the city of Constantinople under siege with over 80,000 troops and 60 huge guns that can tear down the city’s walls. In the American’s past time line, the Ottomans do capture the city and the emperor is killed in battle. It will be race against time to assist the Byzantines in building up their technical and military capabilities with the skills and knowledge, they brought back from the future, to stop the Ottomans. If they are unsuccessful the future is very bleak for George and his team, whom are lost in time.

I liked the concept. Will there be a follow up book to tie up loose ends?

It is an interesting premise and a common one in Alternate History. However the author needs some serious editing done. For one his dates are misleading one month it is 1453 and then a a couple days later it is 1452 as an example. His characters are two dimensional and predictable. The author has done some research into that time but has not captured the flavor of that time. Everything is too cut and dried. Secondly he needs not to rely on spell checker. Princess is not princes one denotes a female of the line while the other is plural. It is a okay read and I would read a sequel to it. I think this novel would have been much better if the author would develop the characters some more. It gives an impression of being quickly written.
